ICA, NASCA LINES & PARACAS
2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT |
| |
|
| |
Carefully drawn lines and
meticulously detailed
geoglyphs of an immensity
and an unknown origin placed
in one of the most arid
regions of the world - Not
many mysteries have
captivated us like the Nasca
Lines. Are they a celestial
calendar? Or perhaps an
offering to appease the
gods? This, one of the
mysteries of world
architecture, still remains
as such. Paracas, land of
sun and peaceful beaches, is
the largest natural reserve
along the Peruvian coast. It
is a territory bathed by
some of the richest ocean
waters on the planet, turned
into a wildlife refuge.

Amazon Basin
(Intimate Contact with Nature) |
|

Iquitos
Located in the heart of the Amazon
rainforest, Iquitos is inaccessible by
land; the international airport and the Amazon
River and its tributaries are the region’s
lifeline. Jungle lodges are reached by boats
that carry the visitor from the bustle of the
city into the wilderness of the Amazon
rainforest.
The city of Iquitos grew rapidly during the
rubber boom of the late 19th and early 20th
centuries. The visitor can still see the Iron
House designed by the famous French architect
Gustave Eiffel and numerous mansions built
during the days of the rubber barrons. Today,
Iquitos is a delightful, mid-sized provincial
capital that seduces the visitor with the
happiness and warmth of its people.
Its top attraction, though, is outside the city
in the vast Amazon rainforest.
Modern Iquitos has become a focus of ecotourism
in the Amazon rainforest.
Nearby nature preserves have recorded over 130
species of reptiles, 130 types of mammals, more
than 300 species of birds, countless numbers of
amphibians, and a large variety of fish,
including the paiche that - at 400 pounds -
weighs in among the world’s largest fresh water
species.
Warm, humid and with a heavy rainy season,
Iquitos’ tropical climate is typical of the
Amazon rainforest. The best
time for visiting is from April through October,
when the rains diminish during the dry season.
For those who wish to delve deeper into the
Amazon rainforest, cruises down
the Amazon to Brazil and Colombia are available

Condor Travel can arrange a la carte
programs with special focus
including botany, anthropology,
folklore and Andean music, museums
and colonial churches. No matter
what your special interest, we can
tailor any program to your needs.
Here are some suggestions:
|
Mysticism
Peru's folk healers draw on their knowledge of
the past to cure their `patients´ in ceremonies
imbued with a mixture of traditional medicine,
Catholicism and the use of hallucinogens, like
the San Pedro cactus.
Weaving
Contemporary Andean weavers are heirs to a rich
textile repertoire that goes back thousands of
years. Condor Travel can arrange weaving
workshops, lectures by weavers and textile
experts and visits to Peru's leading collections
of ancient textiles. We can also organize
excursions to some of Peru's most famed weaving
centers, like Chincheros near Cusco. For those
interested in llamas and alpacas, tours to
camelid breeding stations and modern factories
in Arequipa and Lima can also be arranged.
Archaeology
The pre-Inca and Inca cultures of Peru created
some of the most stunning artworks and monuments
known to mankind. Condor Travel can tailor an
itinerary to meet your interest in Peruvian
archaeology, including visits to Peru's major
archaeological museums, slide lectures and
visits to excavations in process, when possible.
Ecotourism
Peru, a privileged country claiming `megadiversity´
status, has 84 of the 103 ecosystems in the
world and 28 of the 32 climates on the planet.
It offers also some of the best ecoturism
destinations in areas like the pristine
rainforest of Puerto Maldonado or the canopy
walkway near Iquitos. On request, Condor Travel
will furnish detailed itineraries, maps and
lists of what to bring.
Agriculture
Tailor made agriculture programs can be arranged
for specialized groups interested in the
different variety of products we export to other
countries like cotton, asparagus, mangos, lucuma,
etc. Lectures by specialists in this field can
be also given.
Botany
Roughly 35,000 species of plants exist in the
Peruvian territory, over 20,000 have been
identified and the rest are endemic. There are
around 900 species of orchids and also many
types of medicine plants that have been
extracted from the forest trees, shrubs and
flowers like `uña de gato´ (cats claw),
hallucinogenic plants like ayahuasca, etc. You
can also find in the Andes, rare plants like
Puya Raimondi, considered the world's largest
bromeliad, with 8,000 inflorescence and sizes of
up to 10 meters high.
Birdwatching
Because of its tropical location and its large
number of ecosystems, Peru is a birdwatcher's
paradise. Condor Travel can prepare customized
birdwatching tours, led by expert
ornithologists, to a variety of wildlife
reserves and unique birdwatching areas, ranging
from the tropical dry forest of northern Peru,
to coastal wetlands filled with resident and
migratory birds, to the imposing Andes and its
majestic condor, and to the eastern flanks of
the Andes and the lowland rainforest |
