Juan Dolio is situated in the southeast of the Dominican Republic. Popularly known as "Costa Caribe" (Caribbean Coast), its exotic beaches are an ideal place for both relaxing and for practicing numerous sports.

Places to See
Saona Island . Part of a nature reserve in Del Este National Park. With its many caves and lagoons, the island is a sanctuary for migratory birds.
Los Haitises National Park. A protected area with interesting geological formations, vegetation and wildlife. Sites inside the park include El Angel Cave, Los Pájaros Coves, a tropical rainforest, mangrove swamps, and several caves with underground rivers.
Chavon Heights.Known as the city of artists, this place is the residence of many local and international artists. It has an art school, excellent restaurants, a pre-Hispanic art museum, and an imposing amphitheater.
Limon Falls. This impressive 55 meter high waterfall is located in a tropical rainforest in the Samana peninsula.
Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia in Higüey. This sanctuary houses the statue of the virgin Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, protectress and queen of the hearts of the Dominican people. The statue has had the honor of being crowned by the pope on two occasions, once by Pius XI on August 15th, 1922, and the second time by John Paul II on January 25th, 1979.
Gastronomy
Dominican cuisine is a blend of Spanish and African influences, which have also shaped the social and cultural fabric of the country.
The national dish is Sancocho, a stew which combines different meats, vegetables, bananas, yams, and yautias.
Other specialties include roast pork, all kinds of fish and shellfish, and a wide variety of tropical fruit.
Punta Cana is known for its "dulces criollos" (Creole sweets), delicious pastries made from milk, oranges, coconut, or plums.
Bavaro has several Creole and international restaurants, where visitors can sample these and other culinary specialties.
Shopping
There are small gift shops in Juan Dolio where the visitor can find handcrafted Dominican products. These include "guayaberas" (a light, comfortable shirt made from pure linen); various clay figures; jewelry made from amber, larimar and corals; ceramics and mahogany furniture.
The nearest large shopping centers and markets are located in La Romana and Santo Domingo, 30 and 40 minutes away, respectively.
